The Oaxaca government is maintaining open dialogue with Section 22 of the National Union of Education Workers (SNTE) as part of a strategy focused on addressing teachers’ demands and strengthening the education sector in the state.
Oaxaca maintains ongoing communication with teachers.
During a press conference, Governor Salomón Jara Cruz affirmed that his administration has maintained constant communication with teachers and has made progress on various points included in the state’s list of demands.
The governor emphasized that his government prioritizes dialogue and institutional coordination to reach agreements with Oaxaca’s teachers. Under a policy he described as humanist, he reiterated his respect for the right to free expression of education workers, considering understanding and negotiation to be the best way to resolve the sector’s demands.
For his part, the Director General of the Oaxaca State Institute of Public Education (IEEPO), Emilio Montero Pérez, reported that among the progress achieved are the hiring of 4,705 student teachers, one-time payments, delivery of school furniture and technological equipment, as well as addressing administrative issues and providing bonuses for retired teachers. He also highlighted the reopening of the Preschool Psychopedagogical Support Center (CAPP), one of the requests championed by the teachers’ union.
The state government detailed that the investment allocated to address these actions exceeds 6.117 billion pesos, in addition to the follow-up on more than 7,500 administrative processes related to Section 22 of the SNTE (National Union of Education Workers). With this, the authorities seek to respond to the main needs of the education sector and improve the working conditions of teachers in Oaxaca.
At the same press conference, Salomón Jara Cruz reported that Oaxaca has also shown progress in security and governance. According to the Mexico Peace Index, the state of Oaxaca rose from 15th to 8th place between 2023 and 2026, placing it among the states with the best peace conditions in the country.
The Secretary of Government, Jesús Romero López, explained that this progress is the result of a strategy focused on addressing the root causes of social conflicts and strengthening governance in the state’s various regions. He added that Oaxaca now has, for the first time, a Peace Program for Governance Building, aimed at preventing conflicts and creating better living conditions for the population.
