Residents Block Federal Highway in Oaxaca Over Drinking Water Demand
For the third consecutive day, residents of the Vicente Guerrero agency resumed their blockade this Thursday on Federal Highway 175, at the intersection known as the “Y” of Zaachila, to demand the approval and construction of a drinking-water project for Rancho Viejo.
The protesters said they have faced a lack of drinking-water service for nearly 20 years and that, despite efforts and requests made to authorities, they have not yet received a definitive response to move forward with the project.
The protest is disrupting traffic at this section of the highway and also involves the detention of vehicles, causing difficulties for people who use the road.
In response to the situation, BinniBus announced that it will file the corresponding complaints over the detention of its units during the blockade.
The residents said their main demand is to obtain drinking-water infrastructure for Rancho Viejo. They are maintaining the protest while waiting for authorities to provide a response and a concrete solution to their demand.
