Oaxaca de Juárez.– Last Sunday, the body of 45-year-old Gloria Z.M. was found in the municipality of Salina Cruz in the Isthmus of Tehuantepec region.

While the authorities are conducting the investigations, after the arrest of a person accused of being responsible, yesterday, relatives, acquaintances, and residents led a peaceful protest at the offices of the Oaxaca State Attorney General’s Office located in the aforementioned municipality, to demand justice.

According to official information, the body was located on the land of the La Hacienda neighborhood, located on coastal highway 200, the Salina Cruz – Huatulco section. According to preliminary information, Gloria was killed with a machete.

According to figures from the “Rosario Castellanos” Women’s Studies Group (GES Mujer), so far in 2023 there have been 61 violent deaths of women, while the current administration adds 74 cases, of which 22 have occurred in the Central Valleys and 14 in the Isthmus of Tehuantepec.

Social organizations specify that in the last week there have been at least four violent deaths of women in the state of Oaxaca, which until May, according to the Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System (SESNSP), ranked second in the entire country in femicides, with 29 cases; only after the State of Mexico, which totals 42. According to said data, the entity has led the entire year and is located in the first national places for figures of femicide violence.

This Wednesday Jesús Romero, Secretary of the Government of Oaxaca, justified the increase in femicides in the state by assuring that in the administration of Alejandro Murat (PRI), and with previous heads of the state prosecutor’s office, “figures were made up” and were not criminalized crimes correctly.

Jara assures that in 6 months of his government homicides and femicides have decreased in Oaxaca

As an example, he assured that the victim of Salina Cruz was linked to criminal bosses currently imprisoned and affirmed that in the previous six-year term said crime would have been classified as homicide; However, in the current state government and with Bernardo Rodriguez Escamilla, at the head of the Oaxacan prosecutor’s office, it was reclassified to femicide
