The day of action by teachers from Section 22 of the National Union of Education Workers (SNTE-CNTE) included the occupation of shopping malls, supermarkets, and establishments belonging to national and international chains in the metropolitan area of Oaxaca.

On the second day of the national strike called by the CNTE and the ninth day of mobilizations by Section 22 in Oaxaca, its members occupied shopping centers starting at 7:00 a.m. to economically cripple the business sector and force the federal and state governments to provide positive responses to their demands, which they have deemed insufficient.

They insisted that “if there’s no solution, the ball won’t roll!” emphasizing that the 2026 World Cup is a political and economic event that only benefits the exploiting class, while for the people it’s just bread and circuses.”

The teachers occupied Plaza Bella and Plaza Santa Rosa, where teachers from the Mixteca and Cañada regions mobilized. Meanwhile, teachers from the Central Valleys region carried out actions at Plaza del Valle, Plaza Oaxaca, Home Depot, and Sam’s Club, located south of the capital.

For their part, teachers from the Sierra and Papaloapan Basin regions gathered at Macro Plaza, while contingents from the Isthmus of Tehuantepec mobilized at Plaza Madero. In the case of the Coastal region, the actions took place at the Chedraui Cinco Señores store.

The dissident teachers maintain that Mexico is experiencing a critical situation due to neoliberal reforms that have wreaked havoc on family finances with the increase in fuel costs, among other things. The deterioration of the public health system is causing delays in care, a lack of specialists, medical equipment, and a shortage of medications.

In addition, the increased cost of basic goods due to inflation is worrisome, as is the neglect of agriculture and production, transportation, and the legal authorization of oil and natural gas extraction through fracking.

To mask the crisis affecting the country, the neoliberal government of Claudia Sheinbaum is using the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will begin on June 11 in Mexico, as it represents a massive economic and media operation that benefits the oligarchy and the neoliberal government.

They believe that millions are being invested in exclusive areas and special facilities at the World Cup venues, while schools are neglected, pensions are precarious, and public services are insufficient.

Finally, they emphasized that the 4T government is only seeking to strengthen its image before the international community by projecting stability, organization, and a forward-thinking approach, using the sporting event as a tool. political legitimation.
