TaxSi is the new taxi app that will operate in the state of Oaxaca, with the goal of modernizing the service and regulating fares.
The new app will begin operating this June with a trial phase in the 3,000 taxis of the metropolitan area.
How will TaxSi operate in Oaxaca?
A total of 3,000 taxis in the metropolitan area will be equipped with a tablet on the front, which will function as a taximeter so that the user knows the fare.
The Ministry of Mobility has launched a plan to reorganize public transportation in the Historic Center of the capital, which includes removing 1,300 out-of-town taxis from the downtown streets and introducing a technological taximeter platform.
The program is part of the state government’s “Obras Primavera” (Spring Works) and “Oaxaca Linda” (Beautiful Oaxaca) initiatives, which are being implemented in three stages:
The first stage began with an operation involving six traffic checkpoints—implemented by the State Traffic Police, supervisors from the Ministry of Mobility (Semovi), and traffic police from Oaxaca de Juárez and Santa Cruz Xoxocotlán—to restrict access for shared taxis from other cities to streets such as Bustamante, Mier y Terán, Valerio Trujano, and Galeana.
The second stage, scheduled for June 15, involves relocating the taxi stands to three locations: 150 spaces at the Central Bus Station, 58 spaces at the Riberas Terminal, and the construction of a new terminal on Avenida Universidad.
The third phase, scheduled for July 15, includes the relocation of the federal urban bus terminal, road improvements, regulation of informal street vending, and the creation of safe pedestrian walkways along Las Casas–20 de Noviembre, Hidalgo–20 de Noviembre, and Las Casas–Periférico.
The head of the Mobility Secretariat, Yesenia Nolasco, clarified that the reorganization does not imply restrictions on vehicular access to the Historic Center, but rather aims to organize the circulation and operation of public transportation while maintaining connectivity to hospitals, clinics, markets, and other strategic destinations in the city.
Operational Phase of the Application
The Mobility Secretariat announced the TaxSí platform to regulate taxi fares using digital taximeters.
The pre-operational phase with mobile devices begins on June 10; tablets will be installed in 100 taxis on June 25, and the official launch is scheduled for August 25.
TaxSí will operate in two modes: digital, through an application that automatically assigns the nearest taxi with a pre-quoted fare, and on-the-go, in which the user boards on the street and the driver activates the digital taximeter.
