More than 800,000 elementary school children will be without classes starting this Monday in the state of Oaxaca, due to the indefinite strike by Section 22 of the CNTE teachers’ union.

According to figures from the State Government, this number of students will be affected by this day of action initiated by Oaxaca’s teachers.

It is known that parents were notified last week about the start of the strike, which will be indefinite.

This Monday, the teachers have planned a march that will depart from the Juárez Monument at the Huayapam intersection and proceed to the main square of the state capital.

It was reported that teachers arrived in the city center early this morning to begin setting up their encampment on streets surrounding the main square.

It is known that more than 10 streets will be affected by this encampment, and some businesses in the city center are expected to be impacted.

Regarding this strike, Governor Salomón Jara has stated his respect for the teachers’ position, while reiterating his commitment to dialogue.

It should be noted that the teachers are demanding clear answers to their list of demands at both the state and federal levels.
