The Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications and Transportation (SICT) of the Mexican government announced the continuation of the Artisanal Roads Program in the state of Oaxaca, with an investment of 1,298.45 million pesos, aimed at strengthening connectivity and regional development in various communities.
This year, work will be carried out on 201 kilometers of artisanal roads, distributed across 79 roads and 105 work sites, expanding the coverage of this social infrastructure model in different regions of the state.
Of these work sites, 80 will be managed by indigenous communities and 25 by municipal capitals, consolidating the direct participation of the population in the planning, execution, and supervision of the works, a fundamental characteristic of this program.

These actions will also allow us to address five Justice Plans, which represent a historical debt owed to Indigenous and Afro-Mexican communities, and which today are being translated into projects that dignify their lives and strengthen their development:
The Amuzgo people
The Zapotec and Chinantec people of the Ixtlán district
The Zapotec communities of Xhidza and Xhon in the Sierra Juárez
The Afro-Mexican people of the Costa Chica region of Guerrero and Oaxaca
The Mixtec and Triqui people of Oaxaca
Currently, we are working on the necessary documentation for signing agreements, as well as providing the required training, with the goal of beginning work in stages in the coming weeks.
These artisanal roads are infrastructure projects developed through community-based processes, in which residents actively participate. This allows us to adapt the projects to the needs of the territory, generate local employment, and strengthen social organization.
