Civil Protection personnel captured a crocodile approximately 3 meters long on Bacocho Beach, in the municipality of San Pedro Mixtepec, located in the coastal region of the state of Oaxaca. No injuries were reported.

The crocodile was secured and subsequently relocated to the Punta Colorada lagoon as part of preventative measures to protect residents and visitors. According to preliminary information, the crocodile presumably left the Playa Marinero lagoon due to the recent swell.

State authorities reported that this type of movement can occur when wave conditions alter the natural habitat of wildlife in coastal areas.

In a separate incident, two crocodiles were reported in the Rodeo Arroyo Pepesca area of San Juan Bautista Tuxtepec and were secured by municipal authorities.

For their handling and relocation, support was requested from the Environmental Management Unit (UMA) LUCERTAS, based in Ciudad Alemán, Veracruz. The State Coordination of Civil Protection and Risk Management urged the public not to approach or attempt to handle these animals and to report their presence to the authorities.

Authorities are maintaining surveillance along the coast and the Papaloapan River basin due to the presence of these animals in areas frequented by people. It should be noted that Puerto Escondido, a major tourist destination in this state, also belongs to the municipality of San Pedro Mixtepec.

In September 2025, a foreign national suffered various injuries from a crocodile bite while at kilometer 11 of the Cancún hotel zone.
