The Oaxaca Tourism Secretariat (Sectur) announced that the state has been nominated for the 10th Annual Food and Travel Reader Awards 2025 in the categories of Best Gastronomic Destination in Mexico and Best Destination in the country. Several Oaxacan restaurants and hotels are also participating, vying for national recognition.
The awards recognize chefs, restaurants, hotels, and destinations that are raising Mexico’s profile, the agency reported. The destinations were selected by 48 panelists, along with the editorial board of Food and Travel Mexico, and are competing against places such as Baja California Sur, Baja California, Jalisco, Guanajuato, Querétaro, Mexico City, Puebla, and Quintana Roo.
Which Oaxacan destinations are nominated for the Food and Travel Reader Awards 2025?
The agency reported that Oaxaca is among the destinations nominated in this edition for Best Gastronomic Destination in Mexico, a category that “recognizes the country’s favorite destination, whose flavors and culinary traditions make you want to return again and again.” Oaxaca is competing against Mexico City, Puebla, Quintana Roo, Todos Santos, and Baja California.
Puerto Escondido is also nominated for Best Destination in Mexico, a category that “recognizes the best city, Pueblo Mágico (Magical Town), colonial city, beach destination, or established tourist route in Mexico.” Puerto Escondido is competing against Baja California Sur, Jalisco, Riviera Nayarit, the Cheese and Wine Route in Querétaro, and the Wine Route in Guanajuato. The nominations include:
Bodaega – Best Gourmet Space in Mexico
Azul de Oaxaca Hotel + Gallery – Best Boutique Hotel in a Magical Town or Colonial City
Alfonsina – Best Restaurant in the Interior of the Republic

How to vote in the 2025 Food and Travel Reader Awards?
The Ministry of Tourism (Sectur) encourages people to cast their votes to support each of these destinations through the link https://bit.ly/FTRA2025-VotaAqui until January 30, 2026. You only need to register an email address and select your preferred option in each category.
“Each vote is an opportunity to continue sharing with the world the culture, flavors, and warmth that make Oaxaca an unforgettable destination,” they said on social media.
Finally, the agency noted that these nominations reflect the richness of Mexico’s culinary and tourism scene, an authentic expression of the hospitality that distinguishes the country.
