Governor Salomón Jara and the honorary president of the Oaxaca DIF System, Irma Bolaños Quijano, shared hot chocolate, coffee, bread, and Oaxacan tamales with hundreds of people.
Amidst marigolds, the unmistakable aroma of copal incense, and the sounds of traditional music, the Governor of Oaxaca, Salomón Jara Cruz, accompanied by the honorary president of the state DIF System, Irma Bolaños Quijano, shared hot chocolate, coffee, bread, and tamales made by Oaxacan hands with hundreds of people at the Xandú Popular Festival.
Local attendees, as well as national and international visitors, enjoyed the warmth of Oaxaca and the rich cultural heritage that distinguishes this ancestral celebration.
In the streets surrounding the city’s main square, Governor Jara Cruz invited the public to join in the various activities of the “Most Vibrant Celebration of All” program, which includes the Monumental Altar and the recreation of the Cold Tomb, or Tomb 1, of San Pablo Villa de Mitla, both located in the central courtyard of the Government Palace.
“The festival is about sharing, about being with family. In Oaxaca, we celebrate in a big way, with gastronomy, tradition, and joy,” the governor stated during his tour.
The governor visited the 38 stands set up along Carlos María Bustamante, Valerio Trujano, Vicente Guerrero, and Ricardo Flores Magón streets, where various state government agencies offered typical food and drinks.
Attendees also admired the monumental decorations adorning the Zócalo and its surroundings, illuminated with motifs alluding to the Day of the Dead, reflecting the Oaxacan worldview on life and transcendence.
