Alert in Oaxaca for storms, strong winds, and electrical activity

The State Coordination of Civil Protection and Risk Management (CEPCyGR) reported that a string of storms will affect various areas of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec, Sierra Sur, and Oaxaca Coast regions; some will be accompanied by electrical activity, hail, and strong wind gusts.

It specified that this phenomenon is due to the passage of tropical wave number 31, interacting with a low pressure system with the potential for cyclonic development in the Pacific Ocean.

It forecast that this event will continue from Wednesday, September 10th to Saturday, September 13th, “with a high probability of cyclonic development of 80 percent, which will cause increasing instability and increased humidity in much of the state.”

In addition, the U.S. National Hurricane Center (NHC) warns of the formation of a low pressure system near the Gulf of Tehuantepec (95-E), which will induce a humid flow over the state at low levels, along with thermal and dynamic instability. This will lead to the formation of locally intense rains.

He urged the population to take the following precautions:

Avoid taking shelter under trees during thunderstorms.
Stay away from metal structures, power poles, and cables.
Do not attempt to cross rivers, streams, or flooded areas.
