Can you imagine seeing heart-shaped rock formations? It’s possible at the Mixteca Alta Geopark. This destination offers unique views of the Oaxacan landscapes that will make you feel like you’re in a romantic atmosphere.
This place has been recognized by UNESCO as a global geopark since 2017. The area encompasses nine municipalities in western Oaxaca, including Santo Domingo Yanhuitlán, Santo Domingo Tonaltepec, San Juan Teposcolula, and San Bartolo Soyaltepec, among others.
What is the Hearts Viewpoint like in Oaxaca?
Located within the geopark, it’s stunning, sculpted by nature into heart shapes on a hill. These shapes are due to river erosion and landslides, creating a unique visual spectacle.
The formations exhibit peculiar earthy tones, such as reddish and yellow, and a rugged terrain with whimsical rocks with unique shapes.
The clay and silt covering the geotrail originated in the Paleocene-Eocene, about 56 million years ago. The viewpoint is an excellent attraction to visit with your partner or just to discover its incredible uniqueness.
The geosite is one of the longest in the park, stretching 30 kilometers. You can admire it from the viewpoint or tour it in local vehicles with capacity for up to 10 people.

Other views of the Mixteca Geopark

Other viewpoints worth visiting are Santa María Pozoltepec, Andesita Yucudaac, Yucuita Landslides, and the Nochixtlán and Yanhuitlán Valleys. So, if you’re looking for a place full of adventure, this is the destination you should add to your list.
