The Oaxaca Tourism Secretariat invited the public and visitors to participate in two events aimed at boosting tourism and the local economy: the 13th Sailfish Tournament in Bahías de Huatulco and the 3rd Cemita Fair Expo in Tlaxiaco.

Both activities will combine sports, gastronomy, and culture to attract visitors and support families in the host regions. In Tlaxiaco, the Cemita Fair Expo will take place on August 15, starting at 9:00 a.m., on the community esplanade, as part of the patron saint festival of the Virgin of the Assumption.

The event will include a contest for “The Best Cemita in Tlaxiaco,” an exhibition and sale of traditional bread, culinary and cultural lectures, a presentation of the Guelaguetza, and a concert by Chogo Prudente.

The 13th Sailfish Tournament will take place on August 24 in Huatulco, with an estimated participation of 80 to 100 boats from Mexico and abroad.

A prize pool of over 500,000 pesos will be awarded in various categories, including sailfish, marlin, tuna, and dorado. There will also be culinary demonstrations and a traditional dance at the closing ceremony.

Organizers and authorities emphasized that both events will have safety measures and optimal conditions for their development, with the expectation of generating a significant influx of visitors and benefits for tourism service providers, fishermen, artisans, and local producers.

Homelessness remains a persistent problem in the Toluca Valley; at least three settlements for homeless people are located on Paseo Tollocan.

These settlements are located at the entrance to the municipality of Lerma, under the Avenida Tecnologico bridge in Metepec, and on the train tracks in the Pilares area of Toluca.

Artisans, officials from the Sahuayo City Council, and the Michoacán Artisan House will file a complaint with the National Copyright Institute to reclaim the “Sahuayense huarache.” This comes after Adidas introduced the “Oaxaca Slip-On” huarache among its footwear products. This design is exactly the same as the one produced in Sahuayo for over a century and is known as the “Pachuco” style. In addition to copying the design, the company claims that the style of the product is from Oaxaca, not Michoacán.
