Following a magnitude 4.5 earthquake with its epicenter in Santa María Atzompa, Oaxaca Governor Salomón Jara suspended his press conference today.
“We were at the press conference and all the media stood up, but eventually calm returned,” said the local leader.
According to reports from the National Seismological Service, the earthquake occurred at 9:58 a.m. and its epicenter was located 31 kilometers northwest of the municipality of Santa María Atzompa.
Protocols activated during Oaxaca governor’s press conference after earthquake
Through his social media, the governor of Oaxaca reported that they immediately activated Civil Protection protocols after the earthquake and all attendees evacuated the Government Palace.
He also told local media that a total of 57 people were evacuated and confirmed that no injuries were reported. However, he noted that authorities are conducting monitoring to rule out any damage to the state.
