The Oaxaca State Attorney General’s Office has announced, through its official website, the arrest of a man allegedly involved in the disappearance of a married couple. The incident occurred on the border between Veracruz and Oaxaca.
The detainee, identified as M.C.P., is allegedly involved in the crime of disappearance committed by private individuals against two people, according to authorities.
The incident occurred in the Papaloapan basin area, on the border between Oaxaca and Veracruz. The report details that the victims were on their way to sell some land when their family lost contact with them.
The arrest was made following an investigation into the events that occurred on June 18 of this year. On that day, the victims, identified as G.L.R. and E.N.J., left the El Progreso neighborhood in San Juan Bautista Tuxtepec for the town of Tesechoacán, in the municipality of José Azueta, Veracruz, to sell a piece of land. This was the last time their relatives had contact with them.
With no news of their whereabouts, the family filed a complaint, which led authorities to initiate an investigation. During the investigation, the van in which the couple was traveling was located in the town of Guadalupe Victoria, in Loma Bonita, Oaxaca.
The investigation, conducted by the Oaxaca Prosecutor’s Office through the Regional Vice-Prosecutor’s Office of the Basin, resulted in an arrest warrant issued by a judge.
This led to a joint operation with the State Investigation Agency to execute the court order, resulting in the arrest of M.C.P.
The detainee has been placed at the disposal of authorities so that his legal status can be determined.
Daughter of Disappeared Parents Speaks Out on the Case
Ilse Mariela, the couple’s daughter, explained a few days ago that her parents were allegedly deprived of their liberty in the town of Tesechoacán, José Azueta municipality, and that they were going to sell a plot of land located in the Nueva Esperanza district of Ciudad Isla for 30,000 pesos.
She noted that since that date, there has been no news of them, and there has been no communication or ransom requests.
Although the Regional Deputy Prosecutor’s Office of the Papaloapan Basin in Tuxtepec is conducting an investigation and providing information through fieldwork, Ilse Mariela states that the results in the Veracruz case have been null.
It is discouraging for her to see that neither the Veracruz State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) nor the Ministry of Public Security (SSP) have provided support in operations or search operations.
The information obtained, she said, has so far come solely from the Regional Deputy Prosecutor’s Office of the Papaloapan Basin.
Ilse Mariela appeared during a visit to Tuxtepec by Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, where she conveyed the message of the existence of 20 missing persons and the unacceptable inaction of the Veracruz government, despite knowing the scale of the disappearances.
“We urgently call on the president to request the intervention of the Federal Government’s Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection, and in particular, the operation of Omar García Harfuch in this area. Unfortunately, this area has been the scene of many victims, and we cannot continue to live in this situation,” she stated.
She added that her demonstration is peaceful, “and our only request is that you help us find the whereabouts of my parents,” she said.
She also took the opportunity to send a message to those who have them, asking only that they be returned safe and sound, as she indicated that they are not wealthy people, but they will move heaven and earth to have their parents returned, and they will continue to mobilize until the authorities, both in Veracruz and the Federal Government, pay due attention to this case, explained Ilse Mariela.
