Federal and state security forces released six people—technical personnel from the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) and the Isthmus of Tehuantepec Interoceanic Corridor (CIIT) railways—who were victims of the crime of unlawful deprivation of liberty in the form of virtual kidnapping, which occurred in the Isthmus of Tehuantepec region of Oaxaca.

The Oaxaca Prosecutor’s Office reported that the victims, originally from the state of Chiapas, four of them CFE employees and two from the CIIT, were staying at a hotel called Xcanda in Juchitán de Zaragoza. Their kidnapping was being negotiated over the telephone, so they notified the authorities.

Once the victims were released, the Isthmus Regional Deputy Prosecutor’s Office began the corresponding ministerial investigations to determine responsibility for whoever is responsible.

The individuals were taken to the Prosecutor’s Office to certify their health status and then contact their families to inform them of their release and prevent them from committing crimes.

The State Investigation Agency, Defense, the Navy, the National Guard, and the State Police participated in the intervention operation, coordinated by the FGEO.
