The 91st edition of the Guelaguetza begins in Oaxaca

During the first day of activities of the 91st edition of the Guelaguetza, more than 15 thousand attendees gathered 

The 91st edition of the Guelaguetza, known as the mother of typical Mexican festivities, began. The inauguration was headed by Miguel Torruco, Secretary of Tourism (Sectur), and Salomón Jara, Governor of Oaxaca. 

On ‘Lunes del Cerro’, attendees were able to witness artistic groups from eight regions of the entity that participated with traditional dances, in an atmosphere of music, folklore and color. 

Torruco recalled that the Guelaguetza promotes the arrival of tourists and triggers the economic benefit of the local population. 

“In compliance with the instruction of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, to make tourism a tool for social reconciliation,” he said. 

During the first day of activities, the more than 15,000 attendees enjoyed the traditions of 16 ethnic groups and Afro-Mexican peoples. It should be remembered that the Guelaguetza will take place until July 24.
