30 contingents of the municipalities that will participate on Monday in the Cerro del Fortín toured the streets of Verde Antequera from the Fountain of the Region 8 to the Plaza de la Danza

A crowded river of people, locals, national and international visitors enjoyed the sample of dances, traditional clothing of intense colors, mezcal, bulls and fireworks

The 16 ethnic groups and the Afro-Mexican people are together again in a great festival of spirituality, in which the soul of Oaxaca celebrates life with art, music and culture.

Governor Salomón Jara Cruz, the Honorary President of the System for the Integral Development of the Family (DIF) Oaxaca Irma Bolaños Quijano, the Secretary of Culture Alejandra Fraustro, and state secretaries led the parade

The festive and brotherly spirit of the 16 ethnic groups and the Afro-Mexican people manifested itself in all its splendor in the Parade of Delegations that announces the great festival of Oaxaca, the Guelaguetza 2023 that will be held next Monday in the Cerro del Fortin.

In an atmosphere full of joy, hundreds of women, men, the elderly and children danced along the streets to the delight of thousands of attendees stationed on the sidewalks.

The Parade exceeded all expectations of the attendance, but above all it highlighted a festivity that passed in peace and with healthy coexistence bringing together entire families along the streets.

The women of the 8 Regiones of Oaxaca wore their beautiful, colorful and spectacular dresses, huipiles, shawls and skirts adorned according to the traditions of their towns.

Tireless, they danced jubilantly, with the fireworks bulls and drew the ovation and applause from the public, accompanied by the music of their regions, jarabes, chilenas, sones de Betaza, Jarabe del Valles, sones istmeños and an incomparable list of musical pieces, like Pinotepa, the Mixteco Syrup, the Pineapple Flower.

Each delegation prepared for months to celebrate in this historic Guelaguetza in which the indigenous and popular roots of the great festival are resumed, an inclusive celebration of men and women forged in work and art who came from the mountains, the valleys , the rivers, the coasts and the plains of Oaxaca.

Nothing compares to this great festival, to the enormous cultural diversity of the towns of Oaxaca that is expressed in music, dances, fabulous clothing such as the huipiles of the Triqui women or the women of the Papaloapan region, the colorful and sensitivity of artist towns that interact with nature.

Interviewed by the Oaxacan Radio and Television Corporation (Cortv), the Governor of the State Salomón Jara Cruz highlighted that this is a unique festival in the country and in Latin America, for which he invited everyone to enjoy the culture and the art of the Oaxacan people.

“We are very pleased that the Zapotecs, Mixtecs, Zoques, Triquis, Chinantecos, Cuicatecos, Zoques Triquis, all the indigenous groups of Oaxaca, accompany us,” he said.

The Oaxacan President invited everyone to come and celebrate Guelaguetza 2023 in its two editions this Monday, July 17.
