Oaxaca de Juárez. – The case of four tourists who were virtually kidnapped in a hotel in the city of Oaxaca last March set off alerts on social networks, after a user posted on Twitter details of the story that were not known until the moment.

They are Diana, Adriana, Luis and Sergio, originally from Mexico City, who were staying at the Selina hotel in the city’s Historic Center, when, on their last day of stay, they received a call from someone who said they belonged to the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG).

“Diana thought it was one of those common extortion calls, but everything changed when the man on the call began to recite full names, phone numbers, and even what clothes each of the four people who were on that trip were wearing.” points out the user @MerGarza.

The person on the phone also told them their room number, flight itinerary, and listed the activities they had done. Later, another of them received a video call, where they could see hooded people on the other side of the line.

“As they were told in the call, the hotel was surrounded by hit men and snipers, and if they didn’t do what they were asked to do, they would enter the room to kidnap them (which, in truth, they already were).”

After that, they forced each of the people in the hotel room to call her parents, from whom they demanded a sum of 500,000 pesos for each of the virtual hostages; In addition, they were asked to take pictures in intimate clothing.

It was the relatives who ended up calling the authorities in Mexico City, who contacted the State Attorney General’s Office (FGEO). Finally, according to the story, the authorities gave them support to get to the airport and leave the state.

It should be noted that although the publication has a link to an official bulletin from the state prosecutor’s office, on the virtual kidnapping of four people in a hotel in Oaxaca, the official document is dated February 23; However, these events occurred, according to the publications, on March 20.

This Wednesday, the state prosecutor’s office announced that it launched a training strategy for the hotel sector to prevent the personnel who work in these lines of business, as well as guests, from being victims of this crime in its various forms, as well as virtual kidnapping.

“The best way to prevent crimes such as telephone extortion is with information, so that people know what to do when a situation of this nature occurs and how the Prosecutor’s Office intervenes in these events to protect the victims,” said the Attorney General, Bernardo Rodríguez.
