At the same time, they demanded from Governor Salomón Jara Cruz the immediate dismissal of his coordinator of Delegates for Peace, Donato Vargas Jiménez, otherwise he will be breaking the latest reform of Law 3 of 3, which would confirm that this Morenista government will not be a sponsor of the right of women to a life free of violence and that it will tolerate that men members of the state public administration are aggressors of women in the private or public sphere.

Around 13 organizations, including the Committee of Latin America and the Caribbean for the Defense of Women’s Rights, the Association of Women of the Coast of Oaxaca, Encuentro para el Camino, and the Alliance of Indigenous Women of Central America and Mexico also demanded to the Oaxaca Attorney General’s Office to take action in the case of the complaint filed by Martha Aracely Cruz against Donato Vargas Jiménez.

Martha Aracely Cruz, a Mixe indigenous person, has stated that she has suffered physical, sexual and emotional violence on the part of the public servant Vargas Jiménez.

They consider that “his complaint has taken such a slow pace that she has not currently had access to justice, because this server continues to exercise his power from the public space, overlapping with the government structure, the MORENA party and a justice system not centered on the victims.

In addition, they added, “several peers have raised their voices making visible that Donato Vargas Jiménez and his political cronies are people who do not subscribe to the culture of peace and non-violence that our state so much requires, being themselves violent agents and perpetrators of violence against of the women close to their social and political circle, but also against those who have raised their voices”.

It is unfortunate that “the complaints have been treated as mere ‘problems with political overtones,’ and yes, there is nothing more political than violence against women.”

However, “we see with great concern the passivity of the state government with its silence and total tolerance of the misogynistic acts of public servants such as Donato Vargas Jiménez.”

Therefore: “we condemn any violent act perpetrated against women in the Oaxacan state by any man, but, above all, by men who hold positions in the public administration and/or positions of popular election.”

The organizations ordered the Attorney General of Oaxaca, Bernardo Rodríguez, to take action in the case of the complaint filed by Martha Aracely Cruz, applying the legal values of equality, impartiality, and legal certainty, particularly in the integration of the Investigation Folder against the public servant Donato Vargas Jiménez, as well as to bear in mind the victim’s right to prompt, complete, and impartial justice.

Finally, “we hold the Government of the State of Oaxaca responsible for violent acts that, as reprisals, may be exercised against the compañeras who complained, as well as against those who, in the full exercise of the defense of their rights, have raised their voices denouncing state public servants,” points out the statement signed by the Mano Vuelta Center for Community Studies and Strengthening, the Network for Sexual and Reproductive Rights, the National Network of Indigenous Lawyers, the Mariposas Network of Mixes Women and “Mujeres Lilas” Oaxaca.
