More than 502 hectares are expropriated in Oaxaca for the Interoceanic Corridor

This Port could mean the commercial expansion of the region and increase the flow of products from abroad.

The Official Gazette of the Federation published a decree to expropriate more than 502 hectares of the Santa María Mixtequilla community in the municipality of the same name, in the state of Oaxaca, in favor of the Interoceanic Corridor of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec (CIIT).

Of the expropriated surface -more than 502 hectares- 179 hectares are for divided use; and more than 322 hectares are for common use and will be used for the construction and operation of CITT.

The authorities must pay compensation to local people for 130 million 631 thousand pesos.

According to the decree, the Ministry of Agrarian, Territorial and Urban Development (SEDATU) may carry out the execution of the project when is demonstrated that the Federation has made these payments.

“Once this Decree has been published in the Official Gazette of the Federation, it will only proceed to its execution when the Interoceanic Corridor of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec has proven the payment or deposit of the compensation indicated in the previous numeral.”

This decree must be made known, in addition to the DOF, in the National Agrarian Registry, in the Public Registry of Federal Property, and in the corresponding Public Registry of state or municipal Property.

On June 14, 2019, the decentralized public body, Corredor Interoceánico del Istmo de Tehuantepec (CIIT) was created with the intention of establishing a logistics platform that integrates the provision of port administration services carried out by the competent entities in the Ports of Coatzacoalcos, Veracruz de Ignacio de la Llave and Salina Cruz, Oaxaca and their interconnection by railroad transport.

In the National Development Plan 2019-2024 -published in the DOF on July 12, 2019, in General Axis III, establishes as one of its regional projects the Program for the Development of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec, whose axis will be the Interoceanic Multimodal Corridor, which will take advantage of the position of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec to compete in world markets for the movement of goods, through its use .
