Normalista protesters cause chaos by closing Oaxaca streets

The streets of the center of Oaxaca add up to three days with a sit-in maintained by normalistas in demand for automatic places.

Graduates from 11 normalista schools of the entity extended their tents through the first square of the capital by stating that they are unemployed or with temporary jobs.

“Whoever leaves the normal school will leave with his place, even if the conservatives do not like it”, is the phrase that President Andrés Manuel López Obrador expressed in September 2019 and the one that the graduates of the generations of 2018 remember. to the year 2022.

The first campaign houses were placed in front of the offices of Section 22 of the National Coordinator of Education Workers (CNTE), between Armenta and López streets

This action has caused road conflicts in the area and the obstruction of the work of tourist guides who made tours on foot or by vehicle.

The protesters affirm that the sit-in will be indefinitely until the state authorities comply with what is requested in the petition.

Meanwhile, tenants and employees, whose main source of income is tourism, fear a greater impact.

Local businessmen called on the Government of Salomón Cruz Jara, who took office in December 2023, to take actions to avoid damage.

According to data from the National Chamber of Commerce and the National Chamber of the Transformation Industry, in 2022 approximately 70 blockades were carried out in Oaxaca, which generated losses of more than 50 million pesos.
