Oaxaca Authorities Dismantle Kidnapping and Extortion Gang; Five Arrested in the Isthmus Region
The Oaxaca State Attorney General’s Office (FGEO) reported the dismantling of a criminal group allegedly involved in kidnapping and extortion in the Isthmus of Tehuantepec region. The operation, carried out in coordination with federal and state security forces, resulted in the arrest of five individuals and the safe rescue of two kidnapping victims.
According to the agency, the operation was the result of intelligence and investigative work conducted by the State Investigation Agency (AEI) in coordination with the Ministry of National Defense (Sedena), the National Guard, and the State Police.
The Attorney General’s Office stated that the operation led to the identification and arrest of the suspected members of the criminal cell, as well as the rescue of the individuals who had been held captive.
Five People Were Arrested During the Operation
The FGEO identified the suspects by their initials: E. G. O., A. R. M., S. D. M. G., F. J. Z. G., and L. U. J. D.
According to the investigation file, the arrests resulted from tactical operations launched after the kidnapping of two men on June 19, 2026.
Authorities stated that the investigation made it possible to identify the alleged perpetrators and locate the place where the victims were being held.
Victims Were Intercepted While Traveling in a Mototaxi
According to information provided by the Oaxaca Attorney General’s Office, the kidnapping occurred on the afternoon of June 19 along the Laollaga–Chihuitán highway, near the municipality of Santiago Laollaga.
Investigators reported that the two victims were traveling in a mototaxi when they were intercepted by a group of individuals.
They were then forced into a pickup truck and taken to a suspected safe house located in the municipality of Ciudad Ixtepec.
Suspected Kidnappers Demanded Ransom and Extortion Payments
The Attorney General’s Office stated that after abducting the victims, the suspects held them captive while demanding a ransom payment in exchange for their release.
In addition to the ransom, the alleged perpetrators reportedly demanded a monthly “protection fee” (extortion payment), according to the investigation file.
Authorities continue gathering evidence to strengthen the case and determine whether the detainees were involved in other crimes committed in the region.
Intelligence Operations Led Authorities to the Criminal Cell
The agency reported that the operation was made possible through intelligence work and coordination among law enforcement agencies from all three levels of government.
The deployment enabled authorities to locate the suspected perpetrators, carry out the arrests, and dismantle the alleged criminal cell.
The operation also resulted in the successful rescue of the two kidnapping victims.
Victims Received Medical and Psychological Care
After being rescued, the victims were referred by the State Attorney General’s Office for medical evaluation and psychological care.
The agency stated that these measures are part of the comprehensive assistance protocol for victims of high-impact crimes.
No additional information has been released regarding their current health condition.
Attorney General’s Office Reaffirms Strategy Against High-Impact Crimes
The Oaxaca State Attorney General’s Office (FGEO) stated that this operation is part of its strategy to combat crimes such as kidnapping and extortion in the Isthmus of Tehuantepec region.
The agency emphasized that investigative work and coordination with federal and state security forces are intended to strengthen efforts against criminal groups operating in the state.
