Red flag in Puerto Escondido: swimming prohibited
The Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection indicated that around 1:00 p.m., an increase in waves was detected on Playa Marinero and Playa Zicatela beaches, where the water began to reach establishments located along the shoreline. In response, lifeguards and Civil Protection personnel began the preventative evacuation of people and vendors.

Authorities stated that the phenomenon is characterized by long, continuous waves generated by storms at sea, which can cause dangerous currents, a rise in sea level, and risks for those on the beach or in the water.

As a safety measure, a red flag was issued for the coastal area, which means a total ban on entering the sea and the closure of the port to all types of navigation. This signage is used when conditions pose a high risk to swimmers, fishermen, and tourism service providers.

Authorities reminded the public of the meaning of the flag system: red indicates high danger and restrictions on water activities; yellow calls for extreme caution due to unstable conditions; and green indicates that sea conditions are favorable for swimming.

Residents and visitors were also urged to pay attention to official announcements, avoid walking near the surf, and remove any furniture or equipment placed on the beach. It was also recommended to respect the instructions of lifeguards and Civil Protection personnel while the phenomenon persists.
