The people detained during the eviction carried out this afternoon by Oaxaca state security forces against residents of San Dionisio del Mar, who were blocking the Pan-American Highway demanding educational justice, have been released.
The operation, which included the use of tear gas, left at least two people injured and generated moments of high tension in the eastern part of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec, the main transit route to the state of Chiapas.
Parents and community leaders participated in the blockade. Their demand is the immediate dismissal of four teachers from Cecyteo campus 26 for assaulting students.
The accused teachers have been reported to the Cecyteo General Directorate and the Oaxaca State Human Rights Ombudsman (DDHPO) for discriminating against and psychologically abusing approximately 20 adolescent students. The names of those accused are:
Teachers accused by the community:
Edna Inés Musalem Jiménez
Leyta Castillo Escobar
Miguel Ángel Hernández Blas
Carlos Antonio Charis
Far from addressing the complaints, the education authorities chose to reappoint the teachers to their positions, an act that parents described as a mockery and an affront to their children’s well-being.
“The parents and the people of San Dionisio del Mar are demanding respect for and the upholding of their children’s rights. This is how this government engages in dialogue and resolves the problems of the people of Oaxaca,” denounced Carlos Beas, leader of the Ucizoni (Union of Education Workers of Oaxaca).
Despite the violence of the police operation, it was confirmed that after social pressure and increased public awareness of the conflict, all those detained were released, although the demand for justice in schools remains unanswered by the State Government.
