Oaxaca is poised to become one of the most sought-after tourist destinations by 2026, according to the 2026 Travel Predictions presented by Booking.com, which analyzes emerging trends in global travel habits.
The study identifies a shift toward more experiential, personalized travel that connects with individual identities, a trend that positions Oaxaca among the preferred destinations for those seeking cultural, gastronomic, and local experiences.
The research was based on a survey of more than 29,000 people in 33 countries and territories, conducted between July and August 2025, all of whom planned to travel for business or leisure within the next 12 to 24 months.
In Mexico, the states expected to attract the most tourist interest in 2026 are Oaxaca, Nayarit, Jalisco, Hidalgo, and Yucatán—destinations that combine beaches, cultural cities, and natural landscapes.
According to the results, Mexican travelers seek experiences that resonate with their personal identity, from romantic getaways and culinary explorations to stays with integrated technology, holistic wellness, or trips guided by spiritual and symbolic interests.
For Oaxaca, this positioning is associated with its vibrant cultural offerings, its diverse gastronomy, the richness of its communities, and the opportunity to have meaningful experiences beyond traditional tourism.
The study considered only destinations among the 1,000 most booked on the platform between January 1 and June 15, 2025, and evaluated their annual growth to define interest projections for 2026.
