This Sunday, December 28, 2025, the main engine of the Interoceanic Train (Line Z) derailed near Nizanda, between Chívela and Nizanda, in the Isthmus of Tehuantepec.
There were 241 passengers and 9 crew members on board.
Federal authorities (SEMAR, SEDENA, National Guard) and local authorities (Government of Oaxaca, Civil Protection) are responding immediately to the incident. Preliminary reports indicate approximately 15 people were injured and are receiving medical attention.
There are no reports of fatalities. Mayor Claudia Sheinbaum and Governor Salomón Jara confirmed their coordination to support those affected.
The cause of the incident is under investigation.
