The governor of Oaxaca, Salomón Jara, confirmed that work is underway on an urban cable car project similar to the Cablebús in Mexico City and the Mexicable in the State of Mexico. The system, which is emerging as a tourism and mobility solution for the capital, would connect iconic points, from Cerro del Fortín to the Monumento a la Madre, and would significantly improve transportation for thousands of Oaxacans.
What would the Cablebús route be in Oaxaca?
“We haven’t lost sight of having a cable car; we’re considering it for tourism and passenger use… we’re just doing the final calculations.” Salomón Jara, governor of Oaxaca.
According to the governor, the potential cable car route would extend from Cerro del Fortín to the Monumento a la Madre, with an intermediate station near the Álvaro Carrillo Theater. The plan considers taking advantage of the city’s hills to facilitate elevated transportation, attractive to visitors and functional for those who live in the area.
The idea is not new, as in March 2024, the governor had already suggested the possibility of connecting areas such as Monte Albán and the Tecnológico; however, the new proposal seems more concrete and technically feasible.
If implemented, this Cablebús would join the air mobility trend, as Veracruz and Tamaulipas recently did.
It should be noted that there is no exact start date for the project yet; however, the state government emphasized that it is already fine-tuning technical and budgetary details.
