Content creator Gio Cz reported that he and his family are being threatened after displaying cockroaches on a plate of food at a restaurant located in downtown Oaxaca City.
“Lately, I’ve received all kinds of threats, including death threats against me and my family, which are circulating in all the groups you can see,” he reported on social media.
Gio Cz revealed that a cockroach appeared on his plate of food at a restaurant in the center of Oaxaca’s capital while he was eating there with his wife and daughter. He stated that the insect had died as a result of the fumigation carried out at the establishment.
“On this plate, it wasn’t just my wife who was eating, it was my daughter who was eating. The problem is that it wasn’t just a cockroach, it was a cockroach that died due to the fumigation they carried out at the establishment; in other words, it died from poisoning. Surely any of you would have experienced the same problem I experienced.”
In his complaint, he also mentioned a social media trolling campaign accusing him of eating free food at restaurants; however, he denied these accusations and stated that he has never gone anywhere asking for free food.
“Surely the places that know me and where I eat frequently know that I always pay my own bill, and if I like the place, I make a video for it.”
Gio Cz explained that as a content creator, many people and business owners seek him out to collaborate with him on promoting their brands, which he does in his videos, just as content creators in Mexico and around the world do.
This, he pointed out, does not justify someone receiving threats for speaking the truth and speaking out.
The Oaxaca Attorney General’s Office reported that it is providing protective measures and investigating the threats against content creator Gio Cz, “with the goal of guaranteeing the safety and integrity of the victim and his family.”
