A bus belonging to the company Autotransportes Istmeños, which operates the Juchitán-Salina Cruz route, caught fire mid-transit. The 20 passengers managed to leave the vehicle and were unharmed, according to bus company officials.
Company representative Desiderio de Gyves explained that the fire was caused by an electrical system failure. The bus was experiencing problems. It entered the repair shop the day before yesterday and began work today.
On its way back from Salina Cruz to Tehuantepec, it burned completely.
Salina Cruz firefighters and Tehuantepec Civil Protection personnel tried to extinguish the fire, but the fire consumed the entire bus, which was already about to be retired due to its 15-year age.
Desiderio de Gyves revealed that of the company’s buses, only a few remain, less than five, which are about to turn 15 years old and will soon be retired to ensure rider safety.
The fire occurred around 9:00 a.m. this Tuesday, on the Transístmica Highway, between Salina Cruz and Tehuantepec. Fortunately, neither the passengers nor the driver were injured, said Desiderio de Gyves.
