Oaxaca de Juárez, Oax. June 25, 2024.- In the Isthmus region, the Ostuta, Tamarindo and Novillero rivers overflowed, causing flooding in the municipalities of Reforma de Pineda, San Francisco Ixhuatán and San Dionisio del Mar.
Oaxaca de Juárez.- After the rains recorded in recent days in the state of Oaxaca, the State Coordination of Civil Protection and Risk Management reported that various damages have been recorded in the entity.
In the Isthmus of Tehuantepec region, the Ostuta, Tamarindo and Novillero rivers overflowed last Saturday, causing flooding in the municipalities of Reforma de Pineda, San Francisco Ixhuatán and San Dionisio del Mar.
The floods affected 1,500 homes, with no injuries reported. To assist people who had to leave their homes, temporary shelters were set up at the municipal DIF, the municipal dome, the school shelter and the community’s Catholic parish.
In the state capital, in the El Tule neighborhood of the municipality of San Bartolo Coyotepec, in Valles Centrales, 15 homes were reported to have been damaged by the collapse of roofs and sheet metal walls.
Civil Protection indicates that the families (around 60 people) were evacuated and taken to a temporary shelter.
In addition, fallen trees and car accidents have been reported in the city due to the flooding.
This Tuesday, the Heroic Fire Department of Oaxaca (HCBO) attached to the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC), warned about the risk areas in the capital, due to flooding:
- Calle Sauces, Las Rosas and Fuerza Aérea Mexicana avenue in the Reforma neighborhood
- Eliminated steps of the Central de Abasto
- Banks of the Atoyac River (slope under the Valerio Trujano Bridge)
