Juchitán. – An official from the Directorate of Regulation of the National Migration Institute (INM), asked the approximately one thousand migrants who make up the caravan “Exodus of Poverty”, to voluntarily surrender to the Mexican authorities and then they would be transferred to the city of Villahermosa, Tabasco, under the protection of the DIF. There, he assured them, the process for the delivery of humanitarian visas would begin.
The coordinator of the Center for Human Dignity, Luis Rey García Villagrán, who accompanies the caravan that left Tapachula, Chiapas, on December 24, revealed that he was summoned to the headquarters of Grupo Beta, in Ciudad Ixtepec, where he spoke with the director of Regulation of the INM, Segismundo Doguín Garay, who proposed the visas in exchange for suspending the walk.
“I will inform the migrant comrades of that offer from the INM, which personally I do not even consider a viable proposal, especially because they offered the same thing the migration authorities on January 3, when the caravan had been in Mapastepec, Chiapas, for several days. The women and children surrendered, but they were deceived,” García Villagrán recalled.
García Villagrán explained that the “Exodus of Poverty” is exposing the erratic migration policy of the Mexican government, and now its officials are offering humanitarian visas in exchange for surrender, when in Tapachula the migrants waited fruitlessly for eight months and no one from the INM came out to face them.
“When they deceived us in Mapastepec, Chiapas, the migration agents separated the families, some were transferred to Huixtla, others to Tuxtla Gutiérrez and some more to the southern border. So far, we have about 20 missing and we have already filed a criminal complaint for the disappearance. Now they want to deceive us again,” he accused.
At the meeting, García Villagrán said, the state delegate of the INM in Oaxaca, Selene Mandujano Figueroa, was present, who practically spent a week in the Isthmus, since the “Exodus of Poverty” entered Oaxacan territory, last Tuesday, January 2 and made its first stop in Los Corazones, which belongs to the municipality of San Pedro Tapanatepec.
The caravan, of between one thousand and one thousand 500 migrants did not move today from the head of the isthmus municipality of Santo Domingo Ingenio, which is located about 38 kilometers east of the city of Juchitán. In the afternoon, Rosa Vásquez, one of the leaders, said the members of the contingent will give their answer to the position of the INM official. “I think no one will accept a new deception,” he said in an interview with EL UNIVERSAL.
In addition to the deception by the INM about the delivery of humanitarian visas, which forced them to continue on foot their way to the United States, since the caravan entered Oaxacan territory the migrants have been victims of the rejection of the municipalities, mainly, under arguments of authorities of Morena who have stated that “the people do not want them”; the truth, I do not want to confront the citizenship” and even that “the authority has no way of supplying them with water” or that “the president has a XV years party”. All this despite the fact that the Oaxaca government promised to provide humanitarian aid.
On Monday morning, at the usual conference of Governor Salomó Jara Cruz, the head of the Government, Secretariat, Jesús Romero López, said that there is a “synchrony of the media” to publicize the passage of the caravan of the Exodus of Poverty in the territory of Oaxaca, he assured that medical consultations were given to them in Tapanatepec and said that the “hostile” and “media” attitude of the migrants causes them to be denied humanitarian aid and the passage to the communities to rest is closed.
“This caravan has had a more media participation but some positions have lacked foundations, unfortunately this attitude has permeated the communities and they were not allowed to enter either Zanatepec or Niltepec, derived from the fact that this caravan that comes from a Central American country maintained a hostile attitude,” he said.
