The Health Services of Oaxaca announced that mainly the children and elderly population, as well as people with chronic diseases, such as diabetes, high blood pressure, asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), are the most affected.
The pulmonologist assigned to the “Aurelio Valdivieso” civil hospital, Filiberto Cruz Vicente, reported that although the winter stage has just begun, 809 cases of pneumonia have been registered in Oaxaca, of which 391 died.
Pneumonia can be caused by viruses and bacteria. Among the main causes are infection with the flu virus, pneumococcus and coronavirus.
