They supervise progress on the Barranca Larga Puerto Escondido highway

The Secretary of Infrastructure, Communications and Transportation (SICT), Jorge Nuño Lara, once again supervised the works of the Barranca Larga-Ventanilla highway, so complicated and awaited by Oaxacans for 14 years that will bring the capital of that state closer to Puerto Escondido

The Barranca Larga-Ventanilla highway, a work that is being carried out with an investment of 10,670 million pesos and will benefit 116,000 inhabitants, will boost the economic growth and social well-being of the communities in the region.

The road will reduce the travel time from the state capital to Puerto Escondido by 4 hours, which will allow education and health services to be brought closer, in addition to contributing to improving the mobility, security and quality of life of the inhabitants.

It will also allow the number of tourists that the region receives to increase, which will translate into more productive investment, economic growth, and more and better jobs.

The 2-lane Barranca Larga-Ventanilla highway will consist of 10 bridges, 3 tunnels, 2 viaducts, 15 interchanges, 2 toll plazas, 114 crossings and 5 braking ramps, which will shorten significant distances between the city of Oaxaca and Pacific Rim.

An annual average daily traffic is estimated at 4,253 vehicles that will be able to circulate at speeds of between 90 and 110 km per hour. The work will generate 1,800 direct jobs and 3,500 indirect jobs.

On his work tour, Nuño Lara, accompanied by the Undersecretaries of Infrastructure, Jesús Felipe Verdugo, and of Transportation, Rogelio Jiménez Pons, also confirmed the modernization works of the Puerto Escondido International Airport where 2,748 million pesos are invested) to increase its capacity and receive an Aerodrome Certificate.

The head of the SICT was informed of the actions that will contribute to the Federal Government’s objectives of promoting the southern region of the State of Oaxaca and increasing tourist activity, by facilitating arrival to Puerto Escondido.

As well as reevaluate its potential as a rising tourist destination by creating new scenarios that project demand and international flights as a certified aerodrome.

In a scenario in which it is foreseen that by 2027 it will mobilize 1.3 million annual users, with a goal of 1.8 million for 2032 and 2.5 million for 2037.

To this end, various expansion actions have been undertaken at the Puerto Escondido airport. The Master Plan has already been completed, the expansion of the general platform and the reconfiguration of the commercial aviation platform. The new 17,000 square meter passenger terminal is in progress to serve 1,200 passengers during rush hour.
