When is La Guelaguetza in Oaxaca 2023? Dates, how much it costs and what to do

If spirits are your thing, take note because the Mezcal Fair will also take place from July 14 to 25.

The sale to acquire the tickets for the Guelaguetza 2023 has officially begun, which is great news for thousands of Oaxacans who return to this great event with all its beauty and splendor.

For the first time in a long time, the great Oaxacan party will take over the public space outside the auditorium. The rehabilitation of spaces and streets is contemplated so that the Guelaguetza can be lived throughout the city, as well as in different municipalities.

When does the Guelaguetza 2023 start?

The inauguration took place on July 1 at 5:00 p.m. in the Plaza de la Danza. However, the main party, the ‘Fiestas de los Lunes del Cerro 2023’, will take place on July 17 and 24.

It is important to note that the Lunes del Cerro 2023 Fiestas will take place in the morning and in the afternoon. The morning edition begins at 10:00 a.m. sharp. While the evening edition will be at 5:00 p.m.

Prior to the ‘Lunes del Cerro’, the official delegations of dancers participate in a parade that runs through the streets of the Historic Center of the city of Oaxaca, which you can see on July 15 and 22.

How much are the tickets for the Guelaguetza 2023

The official sale will be from June 1 to July 24, 2023 or while they last.

The cost of a ticket for box A amounts to 1,443.02 pesos and for box B it reaches 1,168.11 pesos.

As you will see, the costs of presale and sale do not vary much; however, it is common for the places in these boxes, the closest to the stage, to run out quickly.

As for stands C and D, they are traditionally free, as they are intended for the people of Oaxaca, so it is common to see long lines of people forming from an early hour.

What to do in the Guelaguetza 2023

This is the calendar of activities, dates and places that will take place during the month of July 2023 in the context of the Guelaguetza.

Opening: July 1. 5:00 p.m., in the Plaza de la Danza.

Guelaguetza Invitations: July 1, 7 and 8. Starting at 7:00 p.m., in the main square of the Historic Center of Oaxaca.

Artistic and cultural exhibitions: July 10, 10, 21, 26 and 28. 4:00 p.m., in the Historic Center.

Moles Festival: July 14, starting at 2:00 p.m., at the Oaxaca Cultural and Convention Center.

Semana de Antojitos: from July 14 to 25. From 12:00 to 20:00, in Parque Juárez.

Tejate and Tamal Fair: July 19 and 20, from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., in the Plaza de la Danza.

Calendas Delegations: July 15 and 22 at 6:00 p.m. The appointment will be in the main streets of the Historic Center.

Play “Donají… The Legend”: July 16 and 23, at the Guelaguetza Auditorium, at 8:30 p.m.

Expo Guelaguetza Craft Fair 2023: from July 14 to 25, in the Great Hall of the Oaxaca Cultural and Convention Center. The hours of attention to the general public are from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
