Today, the approach of Tropical Wave Number 8 in interaction with a low pressure zone with cyclonic potential in the eastern Gulf of Tehuantepec could cause intense rains (from 75 to 150 millimeters [mm]) in Chiapas, Oaxaca and Tabasco; very strong (50 to 75 mm) in Campeche and Yucatán, and strong (25 to 50 mm) in Quintana Roo and southern Veracruz.
At 6:00 a.m. Central Mexico time, the low pressure zone was located approximately 645 kilometers south-southeast of Puerto Chiapas, Chiapas, moving to the west-northwest between 16 and 24 kilometers per hour (km /h). There is a 50 percent (%) chance that this system will develop a tropical cyclone within 48 hours.
In turn, a second zone of low pressure, also with cyclonic potential to the southwest of the Colima and Jalisco coasts, could cause very heavy rains in Colima, Guerrero, Jalisco, Michoacán and Nayarit. Said low pressure zone was located at 06:00 hours Central Time, approximately 295 km south-southwest of Punta San Telmo, Michoacán. It has a 70% chance to develop a tropical cyclone in 48 hours and is moving west at a speed of between 8 and 16 km/h.
On the other hand, a low pressure channel extended from the northwest to central Mexico is expected to generate heavy rains in the State of Mexico and Veracruz; showers (from 5 to 25 mm) in Mexico City, Chihuahua, Durango, Morelos, Puebla, Sinaloa, Sonora and Zacatecas, and isolated rains (from 0.1 to 5 mm) in Guanajuato, Hidalgo, Querétaro, San Luis Potosí, Tamaulipas and Tlaxcala.
Heavy to intense rainfall could cause an increase in the levels of rivers and streams, overflows, landslides, and flooding in low-lying areas of the affected states, for this reason the population is recommended to follow the Civil Protection indications in their locality.
In the north and northeast of the country, a dry line will cause wind with gusts of 60 to 80 km/h and dust storms in Aguascalientes, Chihuahua, Coahuila, Durango, Nuevo León, San Luis Potosí, Tamaulipas and Zacatecas.
Likewise, wind with gusts of 60 to 80 km/h is expected with dust storms in Baja California, Guanajuato, Jalisco and Nayarit; gusts of 40 to 60 km/h in Campeche, Tabasco and Yucatán; from 40 to 60 km/h with dust storms in Baja California Sur, Hidalgo and Querétaro, and gusts of 40 to 50 km/h on the coasts of Colima, Jalisco and Michoacán.
Waves of 1 to 3 meters (m) high are expected on the western coast of the Baja California Peninsula and the coasts of Colima, Jalisco and Michoacán.
During this morning, the minimum temperatures will be 0 to 5 degrees Celsius in mountainous areas of Baja California, Chihuahua, Durango and the State of Mexico.
Towards the afternoon, it is estimated that the maximum temperatures oscillate between 40 and 45 degrees Celsius in Baja California, Chihuahua, Coahuila, Nuevo León, Sinaloa, Sonora and Tamaulipas; from 35 to 40 degrees in Baja California Sur, Campeche, Colima, Durango, Guerrero, Jalisco, Michoacán, Morelos, Nayarit, Puebla, Oaxaca, Quintana Roo, San Luis Potosí, Tabasco, Veracruz, Yucatán and Zacatecas, and from 30 to 35 degrees Celsius in Aguascalientes, Chiapas, the southwest of the State of Mexico, Guanajuato, Hidalgo and Querétaro.
