Oaxaca, Oax.- Gertrudis Cruz de Jesús and Cliserina Cruz Merino, members of the Triqui Struggle Unification Movement (MULT), were assassinated after an ambush that occurred Thursday afternoon in the El Hongo area, Yosoyuxi, in the Copala area , heart of the Triqui community in Oaxaca.

“The authorities knew it, they knew that women are in danger, that our lives are in danger, and Gertrudis denounced it and nobody did anything,” said Emelia Ortiz García, a member of MULT.

She added that the only crime of both women, who were also catechists, was to denounce the violation of the human rights of their people.

“Today our sister was forever silenced by the murderous bullets. How many and how many more are missing for the government to stop the murderers and put an end to these massacres?” questioned the activist.

She pointed out that the attack was directed against her companions.

“We demand punishment against the material and intellectual authors of this cowardly act where our companions lost their lives.”

In the Triqui area there is a constant struggle for the dispute over the territory, in addition to crimes against women and men.

Nearly 100 families are experiencing forced displacement and so far the Oaxaca government has not been able to provide a solution to their demands such as the relocation of displaced persons and an end to violent attacks.

According to the Femicide Violence Platform carried out by the Consorcio Oaxaca collective, as of June 16, 65 femicides have been recorded in the first semester of the government of the morenista Salomón Jara Cruz, the average monthly incidence is 9 cases.
