OAXACA DE JUÁREZ, Oax., June 18. – Hundreds of people took to the streets of the city of Oaxaca this Sunday to participate in the Third Caravan March for LGBTQ+ pride, whose theme this year is for the visibility of people living with disabilities.
The slogan was “My disability is also diversity”, since the organizers pointed out that it is one of the least visible sectors and that they suffer more discrimination in all aspects.
The march started this June 18 at 12:00 pm from the Fountain of the 8 Regions, to conclude in the Alameda de León; However, it is not the only activity that this community will carry out, since there is a program that takes place throughout June, Pride Month.
The organizers explained that the call for the march was also open to people who are not part of this community, mainly groups from other sectors such as diverse families and allies, for example.
Collectives such as Concordia, Transdifusión, Movimiento LGBT Oaxaca and the Mexican Alliance of LGBTTIQ+.
Marches were the conveners of this caravan, in which more than 30 contingents participated.
During the caravan, some stops were made at different representative points, the first of which was at the Fuente de los Platos, where the participants gave massive applause in Mexican Sign Language.
The Obelisk to Porfirio Díaz was the second scheduled stop in this demonstration, where they considered dancing “Tiempo de Vals” by Chayanne, in memory of the 41 detainees on November 18, 1901, during a violent raid.
A lesbian and dissident kiss took place at the third stop, at the Juárez Theater, in front of El Llano park, as a way of showing the pride of diverse women and demanding that there be no more censorship of LGBTQ+ expressions of love, by public institutions.
While on Avenida Juárez on the corner with Independencia, the plan marked the fourth stop, “Here is TRANS”, to talk about trans women who have been murdered and whose crimes remain unpunished.
The last stop, in the Alameda de León, was to carry out a series of artistic and cultural activities, as well as to read a request document addressed to the state and municipal authorities.
