Armed attack on the Mixe zone of Oaxaca leaves one dead and 16 missing

After the armed attack that occurred yesterday in the community of Loma Santa Cruz, belonging to the municipality of San Juan Mazatlán Mixe, Oaxaca, the death of a person identified as Porfirio Bautista Domínguez was confirmed.

According to the version of the residents of Loma Santa Cruz, the armed incursion by peasants from the communities of La Maceta and El Zapote, in the municipality of Santo Domingo Petapa, also left 4 persons wounded.

The injured, Jaime Luciano Cruz, Luis Epitacio Cruz, Fidel Cabrera Epitacio and Donaciano Epitacio Marcial, were transferred to the Matías Romero hospital, where they receive medical attention, while tensions remain in the area of the confrontation, despite the police presence.

Armed attack leaves 16 people missing

After yesterday’s armed attack, government sources confirmed that at least eight people from Loma Santa Cruz were detained and transferred to the community of El Zapote. The residents of Santa Cruz denounced that there are 16 missing persons.

Elements of the Oaxaca Public Security Secretariat (SSPO) and the National Guard (GN) are present at the site, who told the residents of Loma Santa Cruz that they have no instructions to rescue the detained persons.

Residents of Loma Santa Cruz and Santo Domingo Petapa dispute some 66,000 hectares of land, which just at the end of January of this year caused an attempt at confrontation that ended with the interruption of the construction of a road for the Bienestar program.
