Justice for Zeus, dog who was attacked with an ice pick until blind in Oaxaca

The Oaxaca Prosecutor’s Office is already investigating this case of animal cruelty; Activists announce march against animal abuse next Saturday.

Oaxaca, Oax.- Zeus is a Oaxacan dog that was attacked with an ice pick by an unknown person, in the municipality of Santa María Atzompa, Oaxaca.

The homeless puppy lost its eyes, for which the Oaxaca Prosecutor’s Office (FGEO) is already investigating.

Through social networks, activists and defenders reported that Zeus was rescued by a man named Alberto Martínez, who helped him with his operation and will also help him recover.

The Oaxacan activist, Aleida Mendoza, said that the doggy was operated, but 5,000 pesos will be required for its treatment, for which she asked society for help.

She condemned that unscrupulous people commits acts of violence on dogs, because just as it happened with Zeus, she added that another dog was previously mistreated without the authorities arresting the aggressors.

The Oaxacan Prosecutor’s Office said that it has already started an investigation folder and hopes to soon find the person or persons responsible for this animal abuse, which is a crime defined in the state Penal Code.

He also reported that so far this year 20 investigation folders have been initiated, while in 2022, 106 were investigated for the crime of cruelty and agony to a vertebrate animal.

Due to this attack on Zeus, the three collective Patitas Felices Refugio, Patitas Oaxaqueñas and Doggos de amor announced a protest against animal abuse for next Saturday, April 22.

They said that the intention is to protest to stop the attacks and raise awareness of animal care.

The march will begin at 11 in the morning in Plaza Bella in the Oaxacan capital, for which reason the invitation is made to society in general.

Zeus will be adopted by Alberto Martínez, who will provide him with the necessary care that he requires for this new stage in his life.
