A bag with human remains and a dismembered body found in Oaxaca

An operation was activated by the state and federal security forces, and agents of the Public Ministry to locate those responsible.

A bag with human remains and a dismembered body was found in the suburban area of the city of Oaxaca, according to reports from the Oaxaca Attorney General’s Office (FGJO).

The finding was reported through 911 from the Regional Command of the State Police, which confirmed that initially in the vicinity of a housing subdivision, a place where an Industrial Services and Technological Baccalaureate Center (CBTIS) is located nearby, in the municipality of Santa Cruz Xoxocotlán, a black suitcase was located inside which human remains were found.  

Hours later, the discovery of a dismembered body was announced in a monument to Benito Juárez, in the same demarcation. It is unknown if the remains belong to the same body.

Given the facts, an operation was activated by the state and federal security forces, experts and agents of the Public Ministry dependent on the Attorney General’s Office of Justice (FGJ) who ordered the cordon off of the area and began with the corresponding inquiries to clarify the identity of the victims, as well as the reasons for their murder.

The Commissioner of Public Safety, Roads and Civil Protection of the municipality of Santa Cruz Xoxocotlán, Raúl Guillén Padilla, reported that according to the first indications, there are no elements that warn that the crime has been reported in his territorial jurisdiction, for which he specifies that perhaps they were just dumped in the area by the perpetrators to cause panic in the population.

For its part, the Attorney General’s Office announced that there are several lines of investigation to follow the events, evidencing that organized crime cells could be involved in the crime.

It was specified that due to the way in which the victim was severed, his identity cannot be accurately determined, so he have to wait for the forensic opinion to corroborate if he is not a person who has been reported missing or not located in the zone of the Central Valley of Oaxaca.
