The apprehension took place in the Deportiva Colony in Salina Cruz when the troops were on board the National Guard patrol 19126, in which migrants of Russian origin were also traveling.

State Investigative Agents attached to the Tehuantepec Isthmus Department detained four sailors who operated under the command of the National Guard and were turned over to the authorities for allegedly smuggling Russian migrants in Oaxaca.

Later it was learned that another 14 Russian citizens were sheltered in a hotel, who were insured by immigration agents.

“It should be noted that these elements, since they were hired in the Secretary of the Navy, have been commissioned in the National Guard, where they have worked in support of public safety, for which reason the Command of the Fourteenth Naval Region was immediately notified, based in that city and port, who coordinated with the competent authorities,” SEMAR said in a statement.

Since last August, the migratory flow of various nationalities from around the world has grown in the area through various routes, some entering by boat, trucks and others on foot.

The bus terminals on the Isthmus of Tehuantepec are saturated, because the destination is the capital of Oaxaca, then the Central del Norte in Mexico City and the final destination is Tijuana.
