PINOTEPA NACIONAL, OAXACA.- After more than a month of work, the Boca Barra of the Alotengo Lagoon was opened on Corralero beach, in the municipality of Pinotepa Nacional, Oaxaca.

There are about eight thousand families that will benefit from the opening of the sandbar, but above all, they will be able to gradually recover the natural conditions of the lagoon whose water was stagnant.

The Boca Barra of the Alotengo lagoon, in the Corralero agency, was reopened to benefit fishermen in the area.

The entrance was built in the 90s, but since then it has been more detrimental due to the constant closures. Although they have done work for the dredging, the bar mouth is closed again, due to the lack of breakwaters, which are now under construction.

In 2020, the governor of Oaxaca went to the area with Senator Susana Harp, to review the works of the work.

However, it was closed again and the municipal president of Pinotepa, Alberto Fenochio, asked President Andrés Manuel López to intervene to reopen it.

Again the Navy intervened with machinery to open the bar mouth and allow the water to have a natural movement.

The closure has caused fish to die and men who make a living from fishing decrease their income.

This community of Corralero lives mainly from fishing and the construction of the boca barra even affected their homes, which during the rainy season have suffered floods because the water does not flow.
