A 10-meter stretch, located between the town of San Pedro Yélox and San Juan Quiotepec, began to rise, apparently due to sinking in the area.
In the Sierra Juárez, in Oaxaca, a highway that was built under the rural roads scheme, with funding from the federal government, fractured, for which a complaint has already been filed against the National Institute of Indigenous Peoples (IMPI), for the poor condition of the section located between the town of San Pedro Yélox and San Juan Quiotepec.
“The work began in September and more than 200 citizens participated, the federal government paid for the cement and the mixer and we do not understand what happened,” said Juan Quiroz, representative of the community assembly of San Juan Quiotepec.
According to the authorities, the road was built based on the applicable norm under the customs and uses regime, however, a 10-meter stretch began to rise, apparently due to sinking in the area.
This highway was inaugurated on January 18 by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, the state governor, Alejandro Murat, and the then Secretary of Communications and Transportation, Javier Jiménez Espriú.
The representative of the INPI in Oaxaca, Juan Sarmiento López, announced that in the face of the claims, expert reports will have to be carried out, given the possibility that the unusual lifting of the concrete was derived from a geological fault.
He explained that personnel from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) and the National Center for Disaster Prevention will carry out a technical investigation to establish the reasons for the atypical sinking.
Given the failures, vehicle access has not been restricted, although caution is requested for its deterioration, and for the upcoming rainy season.
Meanwhile, the director of IMPI, Adelfo Regino, specified that the deterioration of the road will have some geological explanation, clarifying that the rural roads program undertaken by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador has been successful and more than 58 roads have been built in the same way.
