The United Nations Working Group of Experts on People of African Descent will conduct an official visit to Oaxaca as part of a mission to Mexico scheduled from May 11 to 20.
During their stay in the state, the experts will visit the community of El Azufre, where they will meet with local authorities, community representatives, and Afro-descendant people to gather information on the human rights situation in the region.
The visit is part of an international observation exercise that seeks to analyze conditions of racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia, and other forms of intolerance, as well as strengthen the promotion of the Second International Decade for People of African Descent 2025-2034.
The experts will also hold meetings with civil society organizations and actors involved in defending the rights of Afro-descendant communities in Oaxaca, as part of a work agenda focused on dialogue and documenting testimonies.
