The Undersecretary of Civil Protection of Hidalgo, Román Bernal Díaz, reported that specialized geologists are carrying out studies on the natural vent to determine the causes of the loss of pressure.

Tecozautla. — The El Geiser spa, located in the municipality of Tecozautla, which was evacuated preventively on the morning of January 31, 2026, after a decrease in the flow of water and steam was detected, will be evaluated by geologists to issue a diagnosis, as reported by the state’s Undersecretary of Civil Protection and Risk Management, Román Bernal Díaz, in an interview with LSR Hidalgo.

It should be remembered that the administration of the resort reported the total suspension of activities and the eviction of visitors and workers, to safeguard the physical integrity of the people who were in the place.

In this regard, the person in charge of Civil Protection in the entity pointed out that the measure is strictly preventive and derives from a variation in the natural behavior of the geyser, allegedly related to a telluric movement registered hours earlier in the state of Oaxaca.

The official said that the site will be evaluated by specialized geologists, who will carry out technical studies on the behavior of the natural vent and its relationship with tectonic faults, to determine if there are safe conditions for the reopening of the resort.

“Until the specialists conclude the assessment and issue an opinion, it cannot be declared that the geyser has returned to its normal state,” he said. However, he made it clear that it does not mean that the Geyser will run out of steam and water.

Bernal Díaz stressed that this type of phenomenon is not unusual and recalled that the protocol establishes the suspension of activities when there are variations in the pressure of water and steam.

Urges to avoid fake news

The state authorities urged citizens not to speculate, to stay informed through official channels, and to heed the recommendations of Civil Protection.

For its part, the administration of the El Géiser resort reported that activities will resume only when geological studies confirm that there is no risk, which will be communicated promptly.
