Section 22 of the National Coordinator of Education Workers (CNTE) will hold a massive statewide mobilization this Friday, October 17, with blockades of highways, toll booths, airport entrances, shopping malls, and public offices.
In this way, the Oaxacan teachers’ union seeks to pressure the federal and state governments to reinstate the central negotiating table, which has been suspended for several months. According to a statement, the objective is to reopen dialogue with President Claudia Sheinbaum and the Single National Negotiating Commission (CNUN).
The actions will begin at 9:00 a.m. and will be carried out simultaneously in all eight regions of the state, which could paralyze traffic and economic activity in large areas of Oaxaca.
The leadership of Section 22 explained that the mobilization is part of a national day of struggle called by the CNTE in several states across the country. Among the main demands are the repeal of the 2007 ISSSTE Law, the elimination of the “Peña-AMLO” Education Reform, and the reinstatement of tripartite dialogue tables for all contingents of the Coordinator.
They also demand increased funding for education, health, and social security within the 2026 federal spending plan.
“It is time for the government to listen to the long-standing demands of the teachers. There is no progress without dialogue,” stated the state leadership.
According to the call, the rally and blockade points will be as follows:
It is time for the government to listen to the long-standing demands of the teachers. There is no progress without dialogue. State leadership
The Valles Centrales delegation will close access to the airport, shopping malls, the Juárez Monument, the Huitzo toll booth, and the Airport intersection.

In the Mixteca region, the Suchixtlahuaca and Coixlahuaca toll booths will be cleared; on the Coast, the Ventanilla toll booth in Puerto Escondido will be cleared, and transnational stores will be taken over in Pinotepa Nacional, Putla de Guerrero, and Pochutla.
Meanwhile, in La Cañada, there will be a blockade at kilometer 123 in Teotitlán de Flores Magón; in Tuxtepec, the blockades will be at the Papaloapan Bridge and the Caracol Bridge; meanwhile, the Sierra delegation will take over the Pemex facilities in Lachigolo.
In some locations, radio station takeovers, loudspeakers, and flyer distribution are also planned as part of their direct communication strategy with the population.
The teachers’ protest will impact mobility and the state’s economic activity. Therefore, state authorities have called on the population to remain calm and seek alternative routes, although it has not yet been confirmed whether there will be containment operations or immediate dialogue with the protesters.
Tomorrow, the Oaxacan teachers’ union will return to the fray, to insist that their demands, which are not new but urgent, are urgent.
The CNTE has warned that the protests will continue until they receive concrete responses from the Presidency and the relevant ministries.
“The government has the floor. If there is no dialogue, there will be permanent mobilization,” warned the teachers’ union leadership.
