From May 2024 to May 2025, Oaxaca recorded a 4 percent increase in the number of missing persons, or 760 more cases, according to the 2025 National Report on Missing Persons, prepared by the Red Lupa organization.

In the context of the commemoration of the International Day of the Victims of Enforced Disappearances, which falls on August 30, it is noted that in 2025, 760 missing persons were registered in the state, in 2024, the total number rose to 730, and in 2023, the total number rose to 620.

“As of May 16, 2025, 133 people were under 18 years old when they disappeared, the majority of whom were boys, exactly 51.13 percent. Additionally, three girls were missing.”

It highlights that cases of disappearance in Oaxaca initially increased between 2007 and 2008, then the numbers decreased again until 2021, with 2022 being the year with the highest concentration of cases, with 110 people still missing.

It states that from 2023 to 2025, 51.05 percent of the cases of missing and unaccounted for persons are between 15 and 34 years old; there are also 34 cases without a reference age.

Furthermore, 20.78 percent of the cases of missing and unaccounted-for women during this period are between the ages of 15 and 19.

It emphasizes that the state of Yucatán is the only one with a 5 percent decrease in cases compared to what was reported in 2024.
