Today, the Mexican monsoon, interacting with a mid-level cyclonic circulation over Baja California Sur, will bring heavy to very heavy rainfall to Baja California Sur, Sonora, Chihuahua, Sinaloa, Durango, and Nayarit. Meanwhile, the subtropical jet stream over northwestern Mexico and the remnants of Juliette will bring heavy rainfall to Baja California.
In turn, a low-pressure trough over the Northern and Central Mesas, combined with a high-level cyclonic circulation, will generate showers and heavy to very heavy rain in the north, northeast, west, center, and south of the country. Simultaneously, Tropical Wave No. 27 will move over southeastern Mexico and, combined with a low-pressure trough, will bring heavy to very heavy rainfall to the aforementioned region, including the Yucatán Peninsula; with intense rainfall in Oaxaca, Chiapas, and Tabasco. Additionally, Tropical Wave 26 will no longer affect Mexico. Finally, the hot to very hot environment will continue over northern Mexico, states along the Pacific and Gulf of Mexico coasts, and the Yucatán Peninsula, with temperatures of 40 to 45°C in Baja California, Baja California Sur, Sonora, Sinaloa, Michoacán, and Oaxaca. The heat wave will also prevail in areas of Jalisco (south and southwest), Colima (center, east, and south), Michoacán (southwest and south), Guerrero (southwest and south), and Oaxaca (south); and will begin in Coahuila (center and north), Nuevo León (south), and Tamaulipas (west and south).
All forecasted rains will be accompanied by lightning and may include hail.
Rainfall forecast for today, August 28, 2025:
Very heavy to spotty intense rain (75 to 150 mm): Oaxaca (southwest), Chiapas (east and south), and Tabasco (east and south).
Heavy to spotty very heavy rain (50 to 75 mm): Baja California Sur, Sonora, Chihuahua, Sinaloa, Durango, Nayarit, Jalisco, Michoacán, Guerrero, Veracruz, and Campeche (southwest).
Showers with spotty heavy rain (25 to 50 mm): Baja California, Zacatecas, Colima, State of Mexico, Mexico City, Morelos, Puebla, Yucatán, and Quintana Roo.
Intervals of showers (5 to 25 mm): Coahuila, Nuevo Leon, Tamaulipas, San Luis Potosi, Aguascalientes, Guanajuato, Queretaro, Hidalgo and Tlaxcala.
