The Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) reported that the rains and winds caused by Hurricane Erick affected the power supply of 123,757 users in Oaxaca.

“Starting at 2:30 a.m. and at different times, the power supply was interrupted due to the presence of Hurricane Erick, bringing heavy rains accompanied by strong winds, affecting 123,757 users in the state of Oaxaca,” it stated.

In a statement this afternoon on Thursday, June 19, it indicated that of the aforementioned number of affected users, power was restored to 32,603 ​​users, representing a 26% increase.

The CFE also explained that a 115 kV power line was also affected by this meteorological phenomenon and is in the process of being restored.

Additionally, of the thirteen affected medium-voltage circuits, one has been fully restored, two have been partially restored, and ten are pending restoration.

The CFE indicated that 1,213 electrical workers, 233 logistics workers, 261 cranes, 502 light vehicles, three mobile warehouses, three all-terrain vehicles, 34 emergency power plants, 62 lighting towers, and two helicopters are deployed at strategic points in Oaxaca and Guerrero to address the defects caused by Hurricane Erick.

“We continue to monitor Hurricane Erick continuously as it moves along the coasts of Oaxaca and Guerrero. Once weather conditions permit, personnel will begin local restorations and customer service,” the CFE stated in the press release.

Cyclone Erick made landfall on the coast of Oaxaca as a Category 3 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson scale, the National Meteorological Service (SMN) reported early this morning.

“The center of Erick made landfall as a Category 3 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson scale, in Santiago Pinotepa Nacional, Oaxaca, with maximum sustained winds of 205 kilometers per hour (km/h) and gusts of 250 km/h (155 mph). It continues to move northwest at 15 km/h (9.3 mph),” it stated.

At noon, the SMN reported that the cyclone had been downgraded to Category 1, although it will continue to cause torrential rains in Guerrero and Oaxaca, as well as intense rainfall in Chiapas, southern Veracruz, and Puebla.
